Corporate Contribution for Romney... What The _ _ _ _ ?

WASHINGTON -- A corporation that contributed $1 million to a political action committee supporting the presidential bid of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has been dissolved just four months after being formed. The company's fold, and its relationship to the Romney campaign, marks the new contours of the continued breakdown in campaign finance disclosure in the wake of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision.

The company, W Spann LLC, donated to Restore Our Future PAC on April 28 and cancelled its certificate of incorporation on July 12, according to Delaware state records obtained by NBC's Michael Isikoff.
The company's records were signed and handled by Ropes & Gray lawyer Cameron Casey, a Boston-based expert in estate planning for "high-net-worth individuals and families," according to an official bio on the Ropes & Gray web site.
As Isikoff notes, Ropes & Gray recently represented Bain Capital, the investment firm once headed by Romney. Both the firm and the PAC refused to comment to NBC about the contribution.
Bain Capital's New York office is located at the same address that W Spann listed on its contribution to Restore Our Future. They share the address with Akin Gump lawyer Randy Levine, who is also a major Romney supporter.
Restore Our Future was created by three former Romney campaign staffers to support his bid for the Republican Party's presidential nomination. The committee reported raising $12.2 million during the first six months of 2011, the largest amount raised by any Super PAC.
Super PACs are political committees that can receive unlimited contributions from individuals, corporations and unions so long as they spend only on independent expenditures. Restore Our Future is not allowed to coordinate with the Romney campaign in any way.

The W Spann contribution is one of four $1 million contributions given to Restore Our Future. Two of the other three came from small, unknown corporations and the third from hedge fund billionaire John Paulson. Records filed with the State of Utah for the two corporations did come with some identifying information, connecting them to the executives of the anti-aging product company Nu Skin Enterprises.
The big question for the individuals behind W Spann and Restore Our Future is whether any of their activity is illegal. While it is perfectly legal for a corporation to form and dissolve or to contribute to a political committee like Restore Our Future, it is illegal to use a conduit to contribute to a political committee.
According to Paul Ryan, FEC program director and associate legal counsel at the Campaign Legal Center, "Federal law clearly prohibits making a contribution in the name of another." Ryan explained that it would be illegal, "if the humans behind the straw corporation put money into the straw corporation for the purpose of contributing to the Super PAC. It's illegal under federal law to use a straw donor."
The possible legality of contributions like the one W Spann made to Restore Our Future looks like an oversight on the Supreme Court's part. The Court allowed corporate spending on independent expenditures in the Citizens United decision, but also affirmed the need for disclosure.
In the Citizens United decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote: "Prompt disclosure of expenditures can provide shareholders and citizens with the information needed to hold corporations and elected officials accountable for their positions. This transparency enables the electorate to make informed decisions and give proper weight to different speakers and messages."

"People can set up a corporation give millions to a Super PAC and shut it down before they have to file annual reports," allowing donors to remain anonymous, Brett Kappel, counsel at Arent Fox and an expert in campaign finance, told HuffPost. "This was a natural extension of what the Supreme Court allowed in Citizens United."
Still, Democracy 21 President Fred Wertheimer said the $1 million corporate donations to Restore Our Future "may well be a violation of the campaign finance laws." In a statement, Wertheimer called for the matter to be "investigated by the Federal Election Commission and the Justice Department."
"It takes nine months to create a human, decades for that human to be able to make judgements reaching the level of contributions to political causes, but only a matter of days to create a corporation," Ryan said. "There's a big difference between humans and corporations that the Supreme Court ignored in their Citizens United decision."

'Jackass' Star Ryan Dunn Dead At 34

Ryan Dunn, who along with his "Jackass" cast mates made Americans cringe and snicker at vulgar stunts, died early Monday in a fiery car crash.

Dunn, 34, who gained notoriety for diving into a sewage tank among other unsavory stunts, was driving his Porsche in Philadelphia when it careered off the road, flipped over a guardrail, crashed into the woods and burst into flames. A passenger was also killed, and speed may have been a factor in the crash, police said.
Dunn appeared on MTV shows "Jackass" and "Viva La Bam" and the three "Jackass" big-screen adaptations. He also starred in his own MTV show, "Homewrecker," and just began hosting the show "Proving Ground" on the G4 cable network. A G4 spokesman said the show, which premiered June 11 with the second episode slated to air today, would be pulled until the network can discuss its future.

‘Wild Thing' rapper arrested

The rapper Tone Loc has been arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Burbank, Calif., police Sgt. Tracy Sanchez said 45-year-old Anthony Smith — Tone Loc's real name — was arrested Saturday.
Sanchez could not confirm that the man arrested is Tone Loc, but Smith's birthdate and description in jail records match those of the rapper.
Tone Loc is best known for the 1989 hip-hop hits "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina."

USC Stripped of 2004 National Championship

The Bowl Championship Series on Monday officially stripped USC of its 2004 championship as a result of major infractions involving star running back Reggie Bush.
The BCS title will be vacated for that season. The Associated Press previously announced USC would remain its 2004 champion.





"The BCS alerted us today that their presidents have voted to vacate USC's 2005 BCS Championship Game victory," USC Athletic Director Pat Haden said in a statement. "This was not an unexpected outcome. We will comply with all requirements mandated by the result of this BCS vote."
The ruling came less than two weeks after the NCAA denied USC's appeal to have some of the sanctions reduced. The Trojans were slapped with a two-year ban on postseason play and the loss of 30 scholarships.
USC, however, effectively forfeited its 2004 title last year when it admitted Bush was an ineligible player during the Trojans' run to the title. USC claimed the crystal trophy with a 55-19 victory over Oklahoma in the 2005 Orange Bowl. 

"Now that this is behind me I look forward to the future and winning more awards and championships here in New Orleans! Who Dat!"

NCAA had ruled in the school's favor because the Trojans' appeal was asking only for the sanctions to be reduced. The official ruling came after a meeting of the NCAA's Presidential Oversight Committee.
"The BCS arrangement crowns a national champion, and the BCS games are showcase events for postseason football," BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock said in a statement. "One of the best ways of ensuring that they remain so is for us to foster full compliance with NCAA rules. Accordingly, in keeping with the NCAA's recent action, USC's appearances are being vacated.

"It's been fun New Orleans."  Bush's tweet - seemed to confirm the inevitable: the oft-injured, high-salaried running back and the Saints will be parting ways before the 2012 season.

Sean Kingston Nearly Dead After God Based Jet Skiing Accident

Cabbage Patch Kid lookalike and awful pop singer Sean Kingston isn’t having too much fun currently. That’s because God has revealed himself to exist and try to kill him. Honestly he has. And in fairness to God, he’s done it in quite a spectacular fashion.
See, God looked at Sean and wanted to teach him a lesson. When Kingston sang about Beautiful Girls making him suicidal, our Lord God thought he’d give him a taste of death to see if he was being ‘real’ when he sang it.
And so, Sean is now in a critical condition after having a jet skiing accident after he collided with the business end of a bridge in Miami.

The pal of Justin Bieber, along with one other female passenger, was rushed to hospital over the weekend after crashing into a bridge really, really quickly.

Reports are saying that Sean Kingston definitely wasn’t drunk while careering around on his jet ski, but people are muttering about it anyway. There have been no details of what happened formally released.

However, Miami Catholic priest and children’s entertainer, Sean O’Donoimhennesuaghaghiamh, think that this is God’s work.

“You see these fellas with their gyrating dancing women – very much like Pan’s People’ that you’d get on the talking box in the 70s, when the Angelus was still good – talking about suicidal feelings, and you can’t help but wonder if ol’ big bollocks in the sky has had a look at it and thought ‘enough is enough’.”

“God, who we know is a beautifully spite filled, vengeful God, probably looked at this warbling wee fella and thought ‘Right. I’ll show you’. Bono once sang that He moves in ‘mysterious ways’… well… there isn’t any mystery about this! It’s as clear as the many chins on his Sean Kingston’s face!”

The priest added:

“Seriously though, if he wants someone to pray for him, I’m more than happy to appear on the local cable network to talk about it. We’ve got a two-for-one on funerals as well, so if they should tragically die, they should contact our church, St Dympna’s, and we’ll make sure any trips to Lourdes haven’t been in vain.”

The priest then made an Eoghan Quigg ‘vote for me’ face.
A spokesperson for the singer said of the incident:

“Sean Kingston was in an accident today. No further details are available at the moment. He and his family thank everyone for the well-wishes.”

Sean Kingston's female jet ski passenger stated: "Sean was driving "REALLY fast" when they crashed into a bridge this weekend ... and insists she begged him to slow down before the accident.

TMZ spoke with Cassandra Sanchez -- Sean's longtime friend -- who stated she arrived to Miami Beach with another female friend to ride jet skis with Sean and his buddy on Saturday evening.

Sanchez stated, "Both jet skis pulled out of the dock at the same time and we were going so fast we just blasted past them. When we turned a corner and crashed ... they were so far behind us they didn't even see us crash."

Sanchez says ... as Sean was racing towards the bridge, she screamed out, "We can't fit under there! Are we going to try and go under there?  Sean stop!"

... she believes Sean tried to turn away from the bridge at the last minute ... and
lost control because they were going "REALLY fast."

The next thing Sanchez remembers is waking up in the water in pain. Sanchez says her friends on the other jet ski raced over and tried to help out ... with Sean's buddy trying to position the injured singer so he wouldn't swallow any more water. They all signaled for help until a boat came to the scene to help out.

Sanchez says, "[Sean] was coughing up blood, foam and pink stuff" ... and when he finally opened his eyes, he kept repeating the words, "I'm hurting. I'm hurting"

Sanchez says her ribs and her jaw are still sore -- but overall, she's OK.

As for Sean, Sanchez says "They have a tube down his throat so he can't really talk, but he is lucid and understands what's going on." Sanchez says doctors plan to keep Sean in the hospital for "a couple more weeks."

Sean Kingston's condition has stabilized is described as "awake and alert" less than one week after crashing into a bridge while riding a watercraft, sources said Saturday.

TMZ reported Saturday that sources said he has a breathing tube in his mouth and is communicating through nods and sign language.

What you need to know:
Folks, this is mechanically separated chicken, an invention of the late 20th century. As for products using mechanically separated chicken and pork, FSIS ruled that they are safe to eat, but required them to be labeled as such.
Despite them being safe, FSIS states that no more than 20% of the meat in a hot dog come from mechanically separated pork.

It’s always a better to choice to see a real cut of meat at the butcher counter in the supermarket and then decide what you want done with it. Buying something prepared in a factory, such as chicken nuggets, or hot dogs, you’ll always get the worst meat, and it will always be combined with additives and other sources of fat.
